About Garage Sized: How We Measure
Garage Sized answers one practical question: will it fit? We publish garage sizes, garage door sizes and the dimensions of the vehicles that park behind them, and we draw them to scale so you can see the answer as well as read it.
The site is written by the Garage Sized team. We don’t sell or install garage doors.
Where the numbers come from
Every size on the site comes from a published source, listed at the end of the page it appears on:
- Garage doors: manufacturers’ size charts, specifications and installation manuals, such as those from Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton, Garaga, CHI and Raynor.
- Openers: installation manuals from opener makers such as Chamberlain, LiftMaster and Genie.
- Vehicles: carmakers’ specification pages and Edmunds, with ADAC for mirror widths that U.S. makers don’t publish.
- How common a size is: store listings, with the date we checked them.
When sources disagree, we show the range and say whose figure is whose. When nobody publishes a number, we say so, and anything we estimated ourselves is labeled as our estimate.
How the drawings are made
The drawings are built from the same numbers as the tables, not traced from photos. One grid square is one foot, and front views include a 6 ft person for scale. Vehicles are drawn at their published length, width and height, with mirrors where the width with mirrors is published.
How Garage Fit works
Garage Fit uses one size for each vehicle class: the largest current model in that class, rounded up. Real cars are the same size or smaller, so a plan that works in Garage Fit should work in your garage. Still measure your own garage and vehicles before you order a door or build anything.
Updates and corrections
Door and vehicle specs change, so each page shows the date it was last updated. If you spot a mistake, or there’s a size you’d like us to add, send us a message.
